On selecting leaders, most organisations emphasize professional excellence, which is natural, as it contributes to acceptance. However, managers need to have adequate skills also in the field of people management, in addition to their respective fields of expertise. Such skills are not taught in universities, but need to be acquired in the course of day-to-day work. Considering that managers have different backgrounds in this respect, it is worth examining on an individual basis which is the areas that need development.

This method can be used to assess a person’s possession of the necessary management competencies, and the extent he/she is able to exhibit them in everyday conscious behaviour. Because in the assessment situations, a number of experts observe the appraised person, this method yields versatile information.

Technical implementation:

Development of DC exercises and appraisal criteria is adjusted to the competencies to be appraised and the job requirements in each case. After the exercises and the observation criteria are established, the appraisers are trained, including specialists of the customer in all cases.

On implementing the examination, the appraisers evaluate each candidate one by one, and the result is formulated on a consensual basis.
