A couple of weeks ago DEVELOR started a communication campaign related to leadership across its network. By the campaign, DEVELOR wants to draw attention to some important leadership challenges that leaders face nowadays, and help its clients to handle them more successfully.
A fictitious person – The Time Travelling Leader named Tom – guides the people, who join the activity, through the typical challenges of 2021 leadership. The First Challenge Deals With Exhausted Teams
In his first challenge, you have the chance to get to know Time Traveller’s team. He describes how his team is overloaded and exhausted and what symptoms he has observed during the past months, that he needs you to analyse.

Burning Issue: Physical and Emotional Exhaustion
The leader should dedicate more time to handle the physical and emotional exhaustion and fatigue of colleagues and their consequences on performance. In the attached document you can find the symptoms, which if spotted in your team, are indicating a similar issue.
Leadership Recommendation: Listen to People
As a result of exhaustion, people complain more. The leader should understand these complaints (in connection with other factors) as an invitation for discussion. His / her people are looking for help. The first step to provide support is to actively listen to them. Stop, ask questions and give space for answers. Recommendation for HR: Help Leaders Have Important Talks
HR can play a very important role in solving this challenge. To help leaders in these situations, they can provide guidance on how to efficiently hold the discussion, or if needed, participate in it as well. They should also provide the necessary diagnostics or development solutions for the team – be it a regular pulse-check to keep an eye on the situation, a training on resilience or hybrid / remote work efficiency or – if need be – systematic leadership development program.
